Whitby Town Council To Debate SBC Attack On Real Whitby

101 Things To Do In Whitby

whitby town council

Real Whitby understands that our threat of legal action from Scarborough Borough Council is to be debated at the next full meeting of Whitby Town Council.

Several Whitby Town Councillors have already offered verbal and written support after we were threatened with legal action and closure of the site by Scarborough Borough Council.

This matter has been placed on the agenda for next weeks full council meeting. The meeting will ne held at The Pannett Art Gallery at 6:45pm on Tuesday 9th April 2013. It is open to press and public.

The agenda for the meeting reads :

This Council deplores the use of: Scarborough Borough Council Legal and Support Services in order to:

  1. Restrict the right of individual electors and residents to freedom of speech
  2. Restrict the right of individual electors and residents to publish both opinions and comment concerning the business of SBC

Real Whitby would like to thank the individual Councillors responsible for getting this matter onto the agenda for debate.

These are some of the matters which concern me in relation to local government in this area, closing down the ‘Real Whitby’ site will not make these problems go away, so what the management and Councillors of SBC and NYCC hope to gain by pursuing this pathetic, ‘North Korean’ policy is difficult for me to see. It is just another example of the blinkered thinking which characterises the management of both of these outfits.

This list is not in order of importance.

1.The treatment of Tom Brodrick – he is unable to communicate with SBC staff.
    2. My treatment by NYCC, I have to communicate via a central email address and my emails are dealt with at the end of each month.
    3. Conversion of legitimate and non FOIA requests for information into FOIA requests without my permission, this is obviously done so that they can claim that I make frequent FOIA requests, which is not true.
4.The disgraceful mismanagement of money and personnel at NYPA over many years, whilst the NYPA and the NYPA Management Board was chaired by Miss Kenyon – the £28,400 shower, the £500,000 cars, the £200,000 spent on the Maxwell investigation, the refusal by Miss Kenyon to justify the doubling of the NYPA precept, etc. etc. etc.
    5. The Knaresborough incinerator scandal.
    6. The North (West ?)Beach Management Centre fiasco.
    7. The use of the notorious STAKEHOLDER STEERING GROUP system to subvert the democratic process.
    8. The Whitby Traffic Partnership – see No.7.
    9. The sale of a ‘Mouseman’ Thompson pew for £25.00
    10. The sale of the dredger pump at a loss of £40,000.
    11. The misguided move of the SBC offices from St. Hilda’s Terrace, to Skinner Street, at a cost of £502,000 for only ten years – Rob Broadley said that the move should have been to the TIC at the time, and that is where it is now, a very expensive detour, I am still awaiting a reply to my letter on this subject, sent to Jim Dillon in 2007.
    12. The ill thought out and financial disaster waiting to happen, which is the proposed PARK and RIDE scheme – £415,000 spent already, and not even a blade of grass cut, to show for this money.
    13. The allocation of 63 parking spaces for the entire east side of Whitby, in connection with the P&R scheme, an area with very little on street parking and which contains over 400 buildings.
    14. The allocation of 700 parking spaces to the 110 members of the Whitby and District Tourist Association, in connection with the P&R scheme.
    15. The secret meetings/membership/minutes of the three STAKEHOLDER STEERING GROUPS which dealt with the car parking arrangements in connection with the P&R scheme.
    16. General, SECRECY, LACK OF ACCOUNTABILTY, LACK OF TRANSPARENCY and failure to respond to perfectly legitimate, polite and respectful requests for information.
    17. The treatment of Nigel Ward.
    18. The treatment of Peter Budd.
    19. The ‘Me Too’ fiasco.
    20. The arrogance of some Council employees who seem to have forgotten who pays their wages.
    21. The unjustifiably high level of the salaries of some Council employees.
    22. The extraordinary lengths that some Council employees go to, in order to prevent public access to information, using the DATA PROTECTION ACT.
    23. I have experienced at least two instances of Council employees telling me outright, barefaced lies in relation to my enquiries.
    24. I have experienced one example of a Borough Councillor telling me an outright barefaced lie, in relation to an enquiry.
    25. The expenditure of £250,000 on the cutting down of the ‘Irton Tree’.
    26. The ‘Bollard which never rises’ and the two telephone lines which are essential to its happiness and the cost of this white elephant.
    27. The NYMNPA and its planning committee and the resignation of Tim Lawn.

Naturally, SBC and NYCC Councillors and Staff would prefer that all of this kind of thing remained secret, we need the ‘SEA CHANGE’ which we hear so much about, a sea change in attitude from the management of both Councils and also the Councillors.

    Hi Richard.

Scarborough Borough Council’s legal threats highlights that what you say is the Truth, why else would they try and shut you down?

Council Corruption appears endemic in the North East.
I’m having similar if not quite identical Problems at this very moment with Hartlepool Borough Council,

I first Complained and Protested to Hartlepool Borough Council regarding a Planning Application, in August 2008, on the Grounds it had been part erected on My Registered Land & Property, & I had not been given the Opportunity to lodge a Complaint- it was then discovered that the reason I had Not been given the right to object was simply that it had been erected “ without ” Council Planning Permission, but it was later “GRANTED” Retrospective Planning approval by Dishonest & Corrupt Planning Officers ? Despite my Vigorous Protests, which continue to this Day ? I would like to put a Link to your Site my Blog, if that would be O.K.?

While they have not yet commenced any legal actions, a couple of Ward Councillors had the Town Solicitor Send me a Letter of Complaint.? A little veiled threat – which I have ignored, they also complained to the WhatDoTheyKnow Site, on two occasions, so I set up my own Blog,
alan harvey flounders aka “Coffin Dodger ”
and continue to Expose their Dishonourable deeds on my little amateur site,
I sincerely wish you all the best, keep up your Good Work.

An interesting read, Alan. Just as a matter of interest, what is to stop you getting a bulldozer and knocking down the structures built on your land?

That just about covers everything, excellent summary by Richard, I had a poll card drop through the letter box yesterday, it will be interesting to see who the candidates are and how many of them are listed on the RW site for for the various nefarious practices our elected members seem to revel in.

Excellent Richard…it’s when you see everything itemised like this that really brings it home how truly inept SBC really is.

Getting support from WTC is a joke. It is a moaning toothless body that couldn’t even make a decision on the Potash Mine.
