The Baily Bridge At Whitby

The Baily Bridge At Whitby

The Baily Bridge – Erected in 1954 by soldiers from The Royal Engineers.

The Baily Bridge was built for use whilst the swing bridge underwent major repairs.

The Bridge stretched from St Michaels Ghaut to New Quay across the River Esk whilst the swing bridge was out of action.

I used to catch this bus to town on a Saturday morning to meet me mates. The route was Castle Park – Town Center – Eskdale. The bus always ran on time and I seem to remember there was one every 20 minutes. How times change.
