Whitby Labour Party Cllr Broadbent A Double Dipper at Our Expense
Dear all concerned
It is such a shame that Council Leader of the Labour Group for Scarborough & Whitby, Cllr Broadbent does not lead by example.
I never thought I’d ever rip up my membership due to the actions of a Council Leader of a Labour Group.
Even Conservative Cllr Herbert Tindall had the decency to do the right thing and realise that having a single broadband connection in one’s home but being paid for it twice – by both Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council – was not the done thing and Cllr Tindall I believe wrote to the Council declining to accept it.
Cllr Broadbent £765 ! ! !
That’s an annual heating bill for one of Cllr Broadbent’s constituents.
Let’s have Labour Cllr Collin Challen as the Leader of the Labour Group?
Labour SBC Cllr Challen seems to have a better grasp on codes of conduct and Nolan’s Seven Principals, the Seven Principles of Public Service which underpin the integrity of public officials.

Dear all,
Unfortunately the figures posted in the text ‘£765′ and the figure in the image ‘£1200′ do not match and are inaccurate.
The figure in the text of £765 is correct.
I have mailed Glenn a new image showing the correct figure of £765.

Of the 72 NYCC County Councillors, 49 sit on second-tier Councils as well. Of those 49, 37 (ie 75%) have ‘double-dipped’ their Broadband/IT Allowances.
SBC Councillor Eric BROADBENT is no longer a County Councillor, but when he was, he ‘double-dipped’, too. He is the only LABOUR County Councillor in North Yorkshire who has done so – and he is thus far refusing to re-pay the overpayment.
I think that Councillor Eric BROADBENT is very foolish. He has an opportunity now to lead by example and put all of those recalcitrant Conservative, LibDem, Liberal and Independent Councillors to shame.
Wake up, Eric!
LABOUR will struggle at these elections – and the more so if they are unable to show themselves morally superior to the incumbents.

Eric is standing in my ward I think. The Conservative candidate is supposed to be Hazel Lynskey. Not sure if Peter Popple will stand again, but we will know soon enough. I understand there may be a UKIP candidate too. I can see Eric getting in because of the hardcore Labour vote and the other three candidates fighting over the same votes.

If they’ll elect a double dipper they deserve a double dipper. How can the labour party hand him the nomination? All in it together?

“Could you perhaps find some time to point out to other posters on Real Whitby that you are not a member of Whitby Labour Party, and that your views on the potash mine are contrary to the policy of the Whitby Branch, or of the CLP?”
Ok, as you asked nicely I think that that is now done. Does that mean I’m fired?

I would have thought you would have nominated a Whitby Branch member, they seem to be so popular at the moment.

Just for the record, I am still a member of the Labour Party and proud of it. I may seem at odds with our local branches and CLP but that does not detract from the underlying core values, principles and policies that the Labour Party upholds.
