Not content with ruining young children’s holidays, ordering people not to cut thier grass, wrecking local business or letting our town fall into the sea, those bungling buffoons at Scarborough Borough Council are at it again. This time they have decided to do away with the village of Lythe.
Forget checking those calendars, we can confirm its July and not April, and this is no fools day joke. Real Whitby was contacted earlier this week by several Lythe residents who claim that Scarborough Borough Council intend to do away with the village name for electoral reasons.
A local resident told real Whitby :
We received letters regarding the electoral register, the letters have been sent out to people in Lythe with a change in village name to East Barnby. Lythe has been around since the Doomsday book. It is also located on the A174. Changing the village name to East Barnby, which at best has 15 or so houses and is not located on the main road seems to be one of those things that only a Civil Servant could think up and realistically, is not a slight change.
Real Whitby is somewhat perplexed by this matter, but not at all surprised given the councils ineptitude when dealing with matters North Of Scarborough. As Usual we wrote to Scarborough Borough Council for their opinion, and as usual we received no reply. No change there then Hilary !!

This will be part of the annual consulataion on polling districts and polling stations, which is early this year because of the Police Commissioner elections in November. Just write and tell the ERO that you want the polling district to be called Lythe.
Are they proposing any changes to the geography of the polling district? I don’t have my electoral registers to hand, so I can’t tell what the current extent is.

Found my registers. It looks like they could be merging Lythe PD with Barnby PD (total electorate 70). SBC can’t change the name of the village, it does not have that power, and as there is a Lythe Parish Council it would be the Parish Council who would be the first in line.
Are you sure the ERO aren’t just correcting the register and that your house is actually on the Barnaby side of the parish boundary and so your house is actually in Barnaby parish?
