North Yorkshire Police Re-Open Operation Yewtree

As a result of the BBC Inside Out Documentary covering the reports published by Real Whitby concerning Councillor Peter Jaconelli and the failure of North Yorkshire Police to arrest him, North Yorkshire Police have issued the following statement:

http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/index.aspx?articleid=13009

QUOTE:

Historic allegations made on Inside Out – statement”

Further to the historic allegations made against the late Peter Jaconelli, a former Mayor of Scarborough, on BBC1′s Inside Out (North East and Cumbria), 7.30pm, 10 February 2014:
North Yorkshire Police is considering the content of the programme, its effect on previous matters and the potential need for any future investigative work that would best serve the interests of those directly affected.  In so doing, North Yorkshire Police would encourage those individuals who took part in the programme, who were the subject of direct contact with the late Mr Jaconelli, to get in touch as soon as possible in order that their allegations and wishes are fully and properly considered.

Please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, ask for the Force Control Room and state it is for the attention of Detective Superintendent Steve Smith.  Alternatively, contact can be made or information reported via email:

Steve.Smith753@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

Operation Yewtee has three strands:

1.  Savile.

2.  Associates of Savile

3.  Persons unconnected with Savile.

Peter Jaconelli was a close associate of Savile and therefore falls within Strand 2 of Operation Yewtree.  The effect of this announcement is that North Yorkshire Police have had to re-open its Operation Yewtree investigation into Savile and his associates in Scarborough, thus vindicating the concerns raised by Real Whitby and the BBC.

Real Whitby will continue to monitor the investigation and keep our readers p to date with developments.

Good news and I hope it results in uncovering those that have played a part in trying to keep the paedophile ring covered up so that there is less danger to children there.

I am a Scarborough lass and my family knew all those that ran businesses on the foreshore. Every child and parent knew the whispers. The fact we needed pocket money left us in a situation do we take the risk .. or go without.. I was abused by a man called Wilf Brookes I know he knew Jaconelli who didn’t.. That man showed me images of other children he abused.. I was 14 years old and needed a pair of running shoes.. So I cleaned his flat on Victoria Road.. and that was his opportunity to strike.. How can we ignore what children are saying.. The minute they said they were investigating Jimmy Saville my instant response was .. what about Jaconelli he was no angel.. the story is so dirty that Jaconelli was taken to court in Leeds on whispers rather than face the whispers in Scarborough.. The fact they tried to brush this under the carpet angers me.. The Scarborough police should be investigated too all paperwork should be pulled.. because they were being told.. I know..

    @ Sarah,

I would like to be the first to thank you for your very courageous statement (above). The ‘whispers’ you speak of were heard all over the Yorkshire coast, from the late fifties onwards, until Peter JACONELLI’s death in 1999. Even retired Police Officers have confided that the entire Force was aware of his offending.

Yet Scarborough Borough Council Leader Councillor Tom FOX, who was in charge of the Scarborough Police at the close of his career, has ignored my many and repeated requests to clarify what plans may be in the pipeline to remove JACONELLI from his position as Alderman of the Borough. It is clear that there is no will to address this disgraceful and prolonged episode in the town’s history.

One man, who claims to have had the misfortune to be present when a collection of obscene child-pornography photographs was discovered in a back room at one of the amusement arcades, alleges that he was taken into custody and badly beaten, before being ordered to keep his mouth shut then released – of course, without charge.

In my view, there can be no shadow of a doubt that paedophilia was rife for years in Scarborough. Hopefully your statement will dispel the ludicrous assertion that there was no “ring” in Scarborough. From what you say, the man you name as Wilf BROOKES was a part of it.

I wish you closure on your dreadful experience and I salute you for your courage and integrity. Thank you.

    Very kind regards,

    Nigel
