Star Inn Whitby Asks RNLI Not to Collect Funds In Thier Pub – First Published June 2015.
An uncharitable Whitby pub recently refused a request from the local lifeboat crew to fundraise on their premises.
Landlord and lady Jon And Dianne Barlow of The Star Inn on Pier Road were approached by the lifeboat crew during their annual pub dash fundraiser. Drinkers in the pub were amazed to hear the lifeboat crew being turned away.
After anger towards the local publicans flarred up on social mediam, A Spokesman for The Whitby RNLI, Steve Boocock said on Facebook – ” I’m writing this a crewman of Whitby RNLI.
I have been given permission to add this comment. Although we were asked not to collect in the pub in Question, it was done amicably with no bad feeling as the establishment has done work for the charity in the past. We carried on the night and had a successful one.
I must also add that the rumours as to it been the Dolphin Pub are untrue. As a charity we are always prepared for and understand should someone not be a supporter and not wish to give money or support the collection of money on their premises. People do have their own charities and no one can support them all.
Next year we will still ask the pub in question wether we can collect and if they say no then so be it, we will move on.
Please can we nip this thread in the bud as the RNLI doesn’t want any bad feeling spreading for whatever reason. This will be my only input to this thread.
