Following the publication of the full list of premises rated under the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme in The Scarborough News on 17 January, it has been brought to our attention that a handful of the approximately 1500 ratings were out of date at the time of publication.
Under the scheme, food businesses can apply to have their premises re-rated when they have completed improvements. Following a further inspection a new rating can be awarded to reflect the current standards and the Food Standards Agency website (http://ratings.food.gov.uk) updated to reflect the change. It has become apparent that due to an administrative error the ratings shown on the website for five food businesses in our borough were the original scores and had not been updated.
The premises concerned and their correct ratings are:
Staircase Cafe, 5a Golden Lion Bank Whitby – rating 5 (was incorrectly listed as 1)
Pinocchios, YMCA St Thomas Street, Scarborough – rating 5 (was incorrectly listed as 1)
Olivers Mount Restaurant, Olivers Mount, Scarborough – rating 5 (was incorrectly listed as 4)
Tea Kiosk, Lifeboat Steps Slipway, Foreshore Road, Scarborough – rating 4 (was incorrectly listed as 1)
Brooklands Hotel, 7-11 Esplanade Gardens, Scarborough – rating 3 (was incorrectly listed as 1)
Steve Pogson, Health and Community Safety Manager said:
“We would like to apologise to these businesses for this error and for any inconvenience caused. We will be contacting all of them today to advise them of the error and tell them that the website will be updated today with the correct ratings. We have now completely reviewed our systems to ensure this cannot happen again.”
