Bram Stoker International Film Festival – Major Announcement
The Bram Stoker International Film Festival announced today that it has appointed Sultan Saeed Al Darmaki, Life President of the prestigious event which is held in Whitby each October and is celebrating its 5th glorious anniversary this year.
Sultan Saeed Al Darmaki is in his thirties and from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates where he has lived, studied and worked all his life. However Sultan is no stranger to wanderlust and has travelled to many different places around the world including London (which he describes as his second home) Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, San Francisco, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore & Bangkok.
As a result of his travels, he has developed abiding interests in people, arts & culture and was inspired to take up writing, photography and other forms of expressions that help satisfy both his inquisitive nature and wild imagination. Thanks to his protean behaviour and open-mindedness, he has become a modern day renaissance man and is becoming an active force in international arts patronage.
His love of the arts has inspired his latest initiative which is to support independent and emerging artists around the world in the field of films, literature, visual arts, photography and music. He does this by funding many projects on Kickstarter (a major crowd-funding website), establishing prizes for festivals and sponsoring a wide variety of events.
The Chairman and Managing Director of the Al Darmaki Group, which was started by his father, the late H.E. Saeed Sultan Al Darmaki in the early 80′s and managed by his mother for the past 20 years, Sultan is also a writer, photographer and is currently actively involved in film production ,with a number of Executive Producer credits to his name and a raft of active projects slated for production. He commented on his appointment saying, “It is a great honour and fills me with pride to be accepted as a the Life President of the Bram Stoker International Film Festival and I am very much looking forward to being able to help Mike McCarthy and his team further the ambitions of the festival and to help it become the pre-eminent genre film festival of its type.”

Mike McCarthy, Director of the Bram Stoker International Film Festival approached Sultan and after hearing of Sultan’s passion for the arts and genre film production. Mike invited Sultan to Whitby to discuss the festival and the longterm aims and objectives for this unique festival. He said, “We are delighted to make this important appointment and to welcome Sultan Saeed Al Darmaki as our figurehead Life President. His international reach and passion for film make him a natural choice to represent the festival around the world and to help build on five years of extraordinary growth and awareness.”
The foundations stones of laid for the festival have built a strong base on which placed the BSIFF canon a strong base to progress to become as one of the most unique genre festivals in the World, now in its fifth year, gathering support from fans, filmmakers, writers and performers alike. Mike says, “The festival is a community interest company and we are thrilled and honoured to have Sultan accept the role, not only as a financial benefactor and President, but he shares a great passion for art, film and literature with a deep sense and feel for the community involvement within the festival.
